The Office of Career Development and Public Service (“CDO”) welcomes you to Boston University School of Law! The CDO will partner with you throughout your time here at BU Law, to identify career goals, advise you about career options in private practice, government, public interest, judicial clerkships, business and beyond, work with you on job search strategies and resources, and connect you with alumni and other attorneys. CDO resources include individual career counseling appointments, drop-in hours, resume and cover letter review, and mock interviews, as well as numerous programs on career-related topics throughout the year. We also conduct a variety of recruitment programs both on and off-campus.
The CDO also houses the Law School’s Pro Bono Program – touch base with us to learn more about the Pro Bono Pledge and other pro bono opportunities!
Finally, all 1Ls are strongly encouraged to attend the three-part 1L Career Conference Series in October . These sessions will take place as follows:
We highly suggest that you attend all three of these sessions, so please save the dates! In the Career Conference Series, you will be introduced to your Career Advisor, hear from lawyers in a range of career stages, and learn about additional CDO programs and networking opportunities. The second and third sessions will be panel discussions with practicing attorneys in a variety of sectors, and for each session you will be able to choose between two panels to attend, based on your interests and the attorney bios we will share with you.
Your Career Advisor will be available to meet with you following the conference, starting on October 16 th .
In the meantime, please refer to the Resume Handbook , Cover Letter Handbook , and the 1L Timeline , as the information in these is usually of first interest to new 1Ls. You will also be receiving a welcome email from VMOCK, a resume development software which provides instant feedback on your resume. Please explore these resources, as well as our website , which includes a directory to the CDO team and our contact information. You are also welcome to attend any CDO programs open to 1Ls that are scheduled before the conference.
